2026 Lexus RX vs. Competitors Hero

The Lexus RX has been a benchmark in the midsized luxury crossover segment since its debut in the 1998 model year. More than a quarter of a century later, the RX is the automaker's best seller, even as its competitive field has increased. On this page, we compare this steadfast utility vehicle against its key rivals: the Audi Q5, the Lincoln Nautilus, and the Volvo XC60. This matchup compares the least-expensive all-wheel-drive trim of each model, with information for the RX, Nautilus, and XC60 reflecting the 2026 model year unless we’ve noted otherwise. The information for the Q5 is from 2025.

Pricing, Residual Value, and Repair Costs

With a base MSRP of $51,325, the Lexus RX sits slightly above the Volvo XC60 ($49,700) but below the Lincoln Nautilus ($53,995). The starting price for the 2025 Audi Q5 is $52,220. Looking beyond the price tag, the RX maintains superior residual values to its rivals, according to CarEdge forecasts. The RX 350 is projected to retain 66.8% of its original value after five years. Meanwhile, depreciation hits the others more severely. Coming closest is the XC60, with a five-year residual value of 49.2%. Over the same period, the Q5 will be worth 45.6%, while the Nautilus holds on to 44.7%. Looking at the seven-year mark, the RX 350 is estimated to have a 57.6% residual value, yet value retention for the others ranges from just 32.8% to 39.2%.

Considering the cost of keeping these vehicles running their best, in a comparison of 2025 models, Edmunds reported that the RX had an estimated five-year repair total of $1,408, compared to $2,049 for the XC60 and $3,538 for the Q5. The Nautilus had projected repair costs of $1,079.

Powertrain

All four vehicles have a similar powertrain: a turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine. That said, the RX relies on a larger engine – 2.4 liters – rather than the 2.0-liter units found in the others, resulting in the highest output at 275 horsepower and 317 lb.-ft. of torque. The Q5 comes close with 268 horsepower, but it falls short with its torque output of 295 lb.-ft. Greater torque helps with off-the-line acceleration and low-end response, making the vehicle feel stronger in everyday driving. The Nautilus (250 hp/280 lb.-ft.) and XC60 (247 hp/266 lb.-ft.) trail the RX even further.

Ratings and Warranty Coverage

Experts from Edmunds give the 2025 RX an overall score of 7.8 out of 10, which tops the Nautilus' 7.6 ranking. The Q5 earned a 7.1, while the XC60 fell behind at 5.8. The RX scored highly across several categories, including fuel economy, comfort, and technology. Owners reported even better feedback on Edmunds, giving the RX an overall rating of 4.2 out of 5. The XC60 came the closest with a score of 3.7, while the Q5 and Nautilus ranked 3.5 and 3.3, respectively.

A four-year/50,000-mile (whichever comes first) bumper-to-bumper warranty is standard across the board for the automakers mentioned here. Those same parameters are used as the cut-off for powertrain (engine and transmission) protection for Audi and Volvo, whereas Lexus and Lincoln cover the powertrain for a total of six years/70,000 miles.

Cabin Space

Given that these crossovers share the midsized space, they have many similar interior dimensions. However, there are a few critical measurements that favor the RX. With 41.1 inches of front leg room, this Lexus outstretches the Audi (40.9 inches). The same applies to the RX's 39.5 inches of front head room, which favorably compares to 38.0 inches for the XC60 and 38.2 inches for the Q5. Plus, the rear headroom for the RX (38.6 inches) is better than that in the Q5 (37.8 inches) and the XC60 (38.0 inches).
