The 2023 Lexus GX 460 is a true SUV, with four-wheel drive and body-on-frame construction. It can be ordered in Base, Premium, Luxury, and Black Line Special Edition trims. The drivetrain components are a 4.6-liter V8 engine (301 hp and 329 lb.-ft. of torque) and a six-speed automatic transmission; all GX 460s have full-time 4WD. If you’re an avid traveler who regularly tows a sizable trailer, you’ll appreciate that the ’23 GX can pull up to 6,500 pounds.
The GX is clearly a top-shelf vehicle, so it’s not surprising that its base trim is generously equipped. On the outside, it has triple-beam LED headlights, a moonroof, roof rails, illuminated running boards, and heated and power-folding side mirrors. This trim is also compatible with SmartAccess, the proprietary proximity keyless entry system. In the cabin you’ll find simulated leather seats, push-button start, 10-way power-adjustable front seats, position memory (for the side mirrors, driver’s seat, and steering wheel), dual-zone automatic climate control, and four USB ports (two in the front and two in the second row). The10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment interface is packed with navigation, voice recognition, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, a Wi-Fi hotspot, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming.
The Lexus Safety System+, a comprehensive suite of active driving aids, equips the GX Base with a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert, high-speed dynamic radar cruise control, and intelligent high beams. Its other noteworthy safety-related standard features are blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, a rear seat reminder, trailer sway control, and intuitive parking assist.
The Premium adds LED fog lights, rain-sensing windshield wipers with a de-icer, and interior accents made of aluminum and natural wood. The passengers will enjoy the luxury of tri-zone automatic climate control, heated and ventilated front seats, and heated second-row outboard seats.
The Luxury represents the pinnacle of plushness for the 2023 GX. In addition to a couple of performance upgrades (an adaptive variable suspension and an auto-leveling rear air suspension), this trim receives headlight washers, semi-aniline leather upholstery, a heated wood- and leather-trimmed steering wheel, power-fold/recline third-row seats, illuminated doorsill scuff plates, and a cargo-area tonneau cover to shield items from prying eyes. The Luxury should also appeal to audiophiles, as it gains a high-end 17-speaker Mark Levinson sound system.
Although the Black Line Special Edition drops the performance enhancements mentioned for the Luxury trim, but it adds front and rear valances, unique wheels, and a mix of black and dark chrome exterior accents. As far as safety tech, it’s the only trim that comes with a panoramic-view camera system with a multi-terrain monitor.
