The 2023 Lexus ES Hybrid is a premium gas-electric four-door sedan that’s available in base, Luxury, Ultra Luxury, F Sport Design, and F Sport Handling trim levels. Their hybrid system consists of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor that together produce 215 hp. An electronic continuously variable transmission (eCVT) sends power to the front wheels. As far as fuel economy, the ‘23 ES Hybrid achieves an EPA-estimated 43 mpg around town and 44 mpg on the highway.
This trim gets plenty of amenities, such as bi-LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and taillights, a moonroof, proximity keyless entry (SmartAccess), push-button ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable front seats, perforated NuLuxe upholstery, and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Its infotainment system has an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hotspot, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth (hands-free phone and audio streaming), and a 10-speaker audio system. With the optional Drive Connect subscription, you’ll get to enjoy Cloud Navigation, Intelligent Assistant voice recognition, and Destination Assist.
The Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 suite is also installed, bundling a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane tracing assist, lane departure alert with steering assist, road sign assist, all-speed dynamic radar cruise control, and intelligent high beams. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard as well.
The Base can be upgraded with the feature-filled Premium Package. Its exterior enhancements include rain-sensing wipers, a windshield wiper de-icer, power-folding side mirrors, and active parking assist. Inside, the Premium Package will furnish heated and ventilated front seats, a heated and leather-wrapped power tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, a fast-response heater, wireless phone charging, wood interior décor, and position memory settings for the side mirrors, driver’s seat, and steering wheel. This trim is also eligible for a 17-speaker Mark Levinson stereo system, deluxe triple-beam LED headlights, and a key card.
Besides getting the contents of the Premium Package as standard equipment, the Luxury trim receives performance dampers, quilted and perforated semi-aniline leather upholstery, a wood-lined steering wheel, a driver’s seat with a power cushion extender, ambient interior lighting, and a power rear sunshade. On top of that, it gets intuitive parking assist with automatic braking and is eligible for rear pedestrian detection and a panoramic view monitor.
The Ultra Luxury builds off the regular Luxury by getting the panoramic monitor and rear pedestrian detection as standard features, along with rear-door sunshades, a hands-free trunk, and a 10.2-inch head-up display. Its infotainment situation is also upgraded with a 12.3-inch touchscreen and a 3-year trial subscription to Drive Connect.
The F Sport Design is set up similarly to the Luxury trim in many ways, although it does not have the performance dampers, hands-free trunk, head-up display, enhanced infotainment setup, ambient lighting, exclusive leather upholstery, sunshades, rear pedestrian detection, or panoramic view monitor (some of those features are optional, though). It also draws additional attention with some different exterior styling elements.
The F Sport Handling tops the ES Hybrid range with performance dampers, an adaptive variable suspension, Sport S/S+ and Custom drive modes, special F Sport suspension tuning, aluminum interior trim, perforated shift knob covering, and a unique F Sport steering wheel. The intuitive parking assist with automatic braking, rear pedestrian detection, and panoramic view monitoring systems are available.
