The Lexus IS satisfies drivers who can’t live without the irresistible combination of luxury and performance. The 2022 models are beginning to trickle in to the showrooms, and Lexus is set to introduce something quite noteworthy. The adrenaline-pumping IS 500 F Sport Performance variant will soon debut along with an even more exclusive Performance Launch Edition. They will both have a 5.0-liter V8 engine – the same one that can be found underneath the hood of the Lexus RC F and GS F models – and a slew of other features for top performance.

Power and Performance

As mentioned, the ‘22 IS 500 F Sport Performance will get a robust 5.0-liter V8 engine that makes 472 horsepower and 395 lb. ft. of torque. Its partner in the powertrain is an eight-speed automatic transmission, and all versions are rear-wheel drive. It also comes with a variety of mechanical and electronic upgrades, like the Dynamic Handling Package, which includes an adaptive variable suspension and a Torsen limited-slip differential. The IS 500 F Sport Performance will also get larger brake rotors, a revised lower rear diffuser that amplifies the roaring quad exhaust system, a black lip spoiler, and 19-inch Enkei wheels that have been engineered for a lighter weight than those on the IS 350 F Sport.

Style and Amenities

The 2022 IS 500 F Sport Performance will feature unique styling cues that set it apart visually from the original IS 350 F Sport. For instance, the refreshed design of the sculpted hood has been raised by approximately 2 inches, the window trim is lined with dark chrome, and the front bumper and fenders have been lengthened to accommodate the new engine. Inside, there are a number of deluxe details, like black F Sport badging on the heated leather-wrapped steering wheel and door-sill scuff plates, special F Sport accelerator and brake pedals, and a new gauge cluster with exclusive startup animation. The IS 500 F Sport also comes with the Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 bundle of active driver aids, which consists of a pre-collision system with forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, and bicyclist detection, as well as all-speed dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane tracing assist, automatic high beams, and road sign assist.

Performance Launch Edition

You didn’t think we forgot to talk about the limited-run Performance Launch Edition, did you? This version, which will be capped at 500 units for the U.S. market, has some novel upgrades that differentiate it from the IS 500 F Sport Performance. While the powertrain remains the same, the Launch Edition gets 19-inch matte-black BBS wheels, two-tone black and gray simulated suede upholstery (for the seats, door trim, and center console), Launch Edition badging, an all-new Incognito paint color, and an animation feature for the gauge cluster.
