Not many entry-level vehicles offer what the the base ES has as standard equipment, but that’s what discerning drivers have come to expect from Lexus. Its exterior amenities consist of bi-LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and taillights, a moonroof, 17-inch wheels, and proximity keyless entry. Inside, it has push-button ignition, two-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable front seats, perforated NuLuxe upholstery, and an infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10-speaker sound system, Bluetooth hands-free, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. With the available Drive Connect subscription, you’ll gain access to Cloud Navigation, Intelligent Assistant voice recognition, and Destination Assist.
Lexus packs in plenty of safety features as well. In addition to its 10-airbag system, the base ES receives the Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 package, which includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane tracing assist, lane departure alert with steering assist, road sign assist, all-speed dynamic radar cruise control (adaptive cruise control), automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. This trim (as well as the remaining trims) qualifies for these options: a key card, superior triple-beam LED headlights, and a top-of-the-line 17-speaker Mark Levinson sound system.
On top of its performance-optimized dampers, this trim has rain-sensing wipers, power-folding side mirrors, a windshield wiper de-icer, 18-inch wheels, a fast-response interior heater, a wireless phone charger, quilted and perforated semi-aniline leather upholstery, a wood- and leather-wrapped power tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, position memory settings (for the driver’s seat, side mirrors, and steering wheel), ambient interior lighting, and a power rear sunshade. The Luxury’s front seats are heated and ventilated as well, and the easy-access driver’s seat comes with a power cushion extender to counteract fatigue on lengthy drives. As the cherry on top, Lexus adds an automatic parking system to the driver-assist suite.
This posh upgrade comes complete with all of the above plus a hands-free liftgate, a 10.2-inch head-up display, manual rear-door sunshades, and an enhanced multimedia setup with a 12.3-inch touchscreen and a trial subscription to Drive Connect. Along with that, the Ultra Luxury’s safety suite is bolstered with rear pedestrian detection and a panoramic view monitor.
Athleticism is the name of the game with the dynamic F Sport trims. While the F Sport Design has a few of the Ultra Luxury’s features, it lacks the performance dampers, hands-free liftgate, head-up display, upgraded infotainment setup, ambient lighting, leather upholstery, and sunshades – although most of those can be added back as options. What differentiates the F Sport Design is a series of cosmetic exterior upgrades that lend a more daring aesthetic. The range-topping F Sport Handling builds off the F Sport Design with these additions: aluminum interior accents, a perforated leather-wrapped shift knob and exclusive F Sport steering wheel, an adaptive variable suspension, Sport S/S+ and Custom drive modes, and an F Sport-tuned suspension.
